History
Cherrybrook Chinese Community Association was established in 1989, and incorporated in 1990.
Cherrybrook was a relatively new suburb situated in the Hills area in the northern part of Sydney. As early as 1989,
there was already an emerging group of ethnic Chinese. The need for mutual help and social and educational services
were felt, and a Community Association was formed. It aims to promote community participation to foster Chinese
culture and to assist members to integrate into the wider community. The first project was the establishment of a
Chinese Language School for children. Since then, many groups and programs have developed. As of end of June 2005,
the Association has a total membership of over 2,000 families. In recent years, the annual number of financial members
has been about 800 families. Membership is open to all persons who subscribe to the aims of the Association, regardless
of race, nationality and religious belief.
